Dear Readers:

"Systems don't change from within, they try to maintain themselves." Is this true? Let’s say that our guild, EGoV, is one system. Can the organization change from within? From what I see, I believe EGoV can change from what it is curently.

As an individual person, we make decisions all the time. Some might think it doesn’t matter, but in an organization as small as EGoV is, each one of us matters. Do we spend that extra half-hour in the tavern with the possibly others might come in, or do I spend it away from the socialization of others? Do I sign up for that event to help promote the guild, or do I not sign because somehow I know I won't be able to be around for it [so why bother even signing up]? Even though, we get VPs for simply signing up! Do I get drunk or go home happily buzzed? As an organization, as a ‘whole,’ diversity and complexity can increase EGoV’s health and resilience. If one member falters, another should be able to quickly step up and take up part of their duties. Adapting and changing with the times.

The right level of diversity & complexity increases health and resilience of any whole, be it our guild, community, Rhy’Din, or Gaia. It may not seem like those singular choices make a difference, but it can in a guild as small as EGoV is. If others notices that there is activity going on, they too might be inclined to step-it-up and see what they have to offer.

I also realize that we all need time by ourselves, we all need a vacation. If all we did was work, we would be lost within the organization and soon wouldn’t see what needs to be worked on. It is hard to maintain your own rhythm and not simply conform to the rhythm around you. The best critics are not always from within, but those outsiders who visit, or those who newly arrived. This is perhaps one reason why good suggestions often come from those on the edges, where it’s most diverse. The core, the administration, of any system is usually made up of like-minded people.

Getting back to the orginal statement, and question. I believe the organization can change, but the people within the organization must change with it.

Alenia Solarius,
Editor-in-Chief

All you need is love
Submitted by Glacia DuBois of GoD.

A guy walks into a post office one day to see a middle-aged, balding man standing at the counter methodically placing "Love" stamps on bright pink envelopes with hearts all over them. He then takes out a perfume bottle and starts spraying scent all over them. His curiosity getting the better of him, he goes up to the balding man and asks him what he is doing. The man says, "I'm sending out 1,000 Valentine's Day cards signed, 'Guess Who?'" "But why?" asks the man. "I'm a divorce lawyer," the man replies.

The Sirens
Submitted by Brier DuBois

The Sirens were bird-like women who were known to lure sailors to their death with their beautiful songs. Their origins are rather vague, but one tale does tell us they were once the attendents of Persephone before her abduction by Hades. According to one version they were transformed into these winged creatures by Demeter as a punishment for not coming to the aid of her daughter, while another tells us that the girls were given wings as a gift from the gods in order to help them search for the lost maiden. Though Homer only speaks of two Sirens, they are traditionally represented as being three in number, and they were said to live on an island named Anthemoëssa which was located near the Italian coast. It was the Siren's practice to raise their sweet voices in song as approaching ships passed by, thus causing the sailors to become dazed, losing all recollection of their former lives.

The wayward men were contented to waste away on the beach, listening as the Siren's songs filled their ears until the only thing left of them were their sun bleached bones. Odysseus and his men were able to safely pass by the Siren's realm thanks to the sounds of the lyre of Orpheus. The minstreal was able to drown out the deadly voices for everyone, except for an Argonaut by the name of Butes. Only a few notes of the hypnotic melody caused Butes to dive into the sea and swim to the island. Fortunately for him, his life was spared when the goddess Aphrodite intervened and came to his rescue.

Later, when Odysseus was returning home from the Trojan War he once again managed to avoid the deadly sounds of the Sirens by listening to the advice of his mistress Circe . He filled the ears of his crew with wax to prevent them from hearing and then he instructed the men to tie him tightly to the mast of the ship. This allowed Odysseus to safely fill his ears with the haunting music while permitting the Argo to once again pass by. Because the Sirens were destined to die if and when any sailor made it past their grasp unharmed, it was said that upon Odysseus' safe passage they threw themselves into the sea and died.

Guild News

Febrary 2, 2007

Greetings All,
Shortly before or after this letter you will note a few changes on the guilds roster. Division Six as of last night was closed, moving all the members into Mercury Corps. We at this time to not feel it is necessary to have two divisions open. This will move Alenia to Guild Liaison, note that the title is only temporary please. Which places Bri as the divisional commander for all guild members. If you have any questions please feel free to contact either myself or Tristan.

Sincerely,
Brier Dubois

Remember that you can earn guild points for most activities! Check out guild policies for more information and a current list of point values.

Greetings esteemed members of AoRG,
As many of you may have noticed on the Forum newsletter there is no more separation of Assassins and Bounty hunters. We are now simply the "Justice department." With this change there also comes a set of streamlined mandates as you will see below and with any luck will be up on the portal to view. I know many of you will have questions, and it may very well be more than we can handle at one meeting tonight. Which is why we will be hosting the next GC Symposium, very early in the month of February.

Regards,
Glacia K. C. Dubois

Please send all mail regarding the Justice Department to: Glacia8984, Bekkah420, VvRazielvV, AnnisXXII, Leoperdis. Unless stated otherwise.

If you lost your copy of the new mandates, please request a copy from a member on the High Council.
