Dear Readers:

Personally, I want to recognize Brianne for the hard work she did while I was away. I know it wasn't easy doing the added work it gave her while I was on vacation. These words can not express the gratitude I feel towards her and the others of the High Council. Brianne did a great job on the July newsletter and the behind-the-scenes work on EGoV's Drunk Daggers event.

I've continued the new section titled, "Who? What? How?" with the highlighted section on Adratha Al'thor. Continue reading to read that, and also other news of importance.

Moving onto related news, I am pleased to welcome Guardians of the Flame[GF] and Guardians of Destruction [GoD] members as guest-writers & readers of the Chronicle. Any suggestions, comments, letters or news from our friends in either of the guilds is appreciated. May this help strengthen the friendship we have.

As always, if anyone wishes to submit anything for the newsletter please send it in to the Chronicle Staff

Comedy Bits

The old farmer had a large pond in the back, fixed up nicely with picnic tables, a barbecue pit, horseshoe courts, and some apple and peach trees. The pond was properly shaped and fixed up for swimming when it was built.

One evening, the old guy decided to go down to the pond and look it over. He hadn't been there for a while. He grabbed a five gallon bucket to bring back some fruit.

As he neared the pond, he heard voices shouting and laughing with glee. As he came closer, he saw it was a bunch of young women skinny dipping in his pond. As he approached, he made the women aware of his presence.

At once, they all went to the deep end.

One of the women shouted to him, "We're not coming out until you leave."

The old man frowned, "I did not come down here to watch you young ladies swim naked, or to make you get out of the pond naked."

Holding up the bucket, he said, "I'm here to feed the alligator."

Gifts of Nature

What do you imagine when you think of making crafts? Some think of crafts children would bring home from school. However, anything that is made with your hands can be a craft. Most ancient societies had to rely on what they found.

Look around you and you’d be amazed what you can create with the gifts nature gives us. You’ll see a beauty in every nook and cranny of our world. All that needs to be done is for us to open our eyes. Nature has colors and patterns that no artist can ever draw or paint nearly as well. They are the gifts of the earth, but we can work hand in hand with gaia to use the gifts she has given us to create things that are touched with her beauty.

For example, you can create a chest set made of sea-shells, or twigs and moss. Or perhaps a raffia basket, miniature furniture or houses that the perfect size for the fairies of the lands. Your imagination is the limit.

If anyone submits a story, orb, or picture of such a creation, I'd be happy to publish it in next month's newsletter.

Evil Conquers When
Good Men Fail to Act

[For those of you who do not already know, there is a storyline just beginning on the message board. This is an introduction and not an actual post on the Message Board. Some dramatic details have been added to this prologue. Join in if you haven't already!]

There were whispers of ghosts, haunting those that survived. Cold and hungry children crying and begging for more - but there was none to be given. The winters were usually harsh in the mountain valleys, but this past one was the worst recorded in the last 1,000 years. Travelers and locals alike were trapped with their winter food quickly being depleted. No word of help could escape; either that or none could reach them... not till the lands thawed enough. And winter held control over the land and surrounding mountain passes till late-April.

By then it was too late. The merchants that Adratha Al'thor traded with told him the news. The orphanage had run out of food this past winter. Usually what the home traded, or was gifted, was enough to see them through the season. Many parents, though, gave their life to see their children survive. With the growing number of orphans and extended winter season, food became sparse. Only a relative hand-full of children died, but how they died shocked those that heard. Starvation in a small town.

"Don't look good this year. Shorter growin' season, lack of rain and with the snow gone - no water for crops. Dry heat it is I tell ye. Trade's bad..." one of the traders said.

Adratha knew he had to bring it up to the guild. Something had to be done...

Letter from Guild Commander Llyr

Greetings Guardians,
This month I'd like to focus a bit on Guardia Academy. For those of you who have not taken courses there, it is EGoV's guild academy, open to all members of EGoV. In the past, we have also offered our coursework to other guilds of AoRG, however this is typically on a requested basis.

So why have a guild academy? In the simplest terms, it is just one of the ways in which we can disseminate information to you, but more importantly, coursework for Guardia Academy is designed to be of a useful nature. Such courses as AoRG Proctoring Standards and Basic Combat are designed to be immediately useful to those who take them. Courses such as Intro to EGoV and AoRG General Mandates are designed to provide useful information and background on both the guild and our forum.

In the future, we hope to provide even more useful courses, such as courses on basic guild functions, forum administrations and registrations, as well as more advanced concept and lab classes. We are always looking for instructors and course ideas, so if you are interested in this line of work, please do not hesitate to contact me. I hope all of you have the opportunity to experience a course or two, or even all of the available courses from Guardia Academy. Your feedback and suggestions with regard to the academy only serves to make it better for all of us. Of course, please feel free to contact me anytime with regard to the academy, or with regard to any other matter.

Letter from Commander Alcinoos

Greetings everyone!

Welcome to the month of August! Soon we will be heading into the delightful season of Autumn! It really is a beautiful time of year with the leaves changing their attire and the winds bringing us a light chill to warn of us of the coming winter. But we still have this month yet to enjoy the sun and heat!

But when one speaks of winter, it seems there was a tragedy that befell our lands this past cold season. Recently, it was learned that a few orphans within the providence of Kiergard passed away due to the cold and lack of food. This is quite an odd tale for us to hear, as in the past, we had heard of a delightful orphanage and wonderful caretaker, Bellinda. For those still new to the lands, Kiergard is our neighboring providence to the east. As such, I believe we have all received a note from Adratha detailing the situation and that we are sending out a party to investigate the orphanage to further determine what happened to cause such a change since last an ambassador visited there. Hopefully it is nothing more than just a harsh winter, but it seems rather odd to me that Bellinda has not been found yet. Please be sure to respond to the call for aid on the message board so we can all be gathered together to set out on this journey.

But let us not think only of sad things at this time. This past month has been full of activity and the new bouncy lives of Lanara and Grace, along with the inquisitive minds of Creed and Lorelei have brought new life into the guild and certainly have brought smiles to all of the older member's faces. I wish to welcome the four of you once again and hope that you can find yourselves a home here within the lands of Guardia.

Of course, I'm sitting rambling away here! As always, the council is here to support the members, so if anyone has any suggestions or questions, please don't hesitate to approach any one of us. We will gladly listen and discuss ideas, lessons, or just about anything with you all.

By my Hand,
Brianne A. Alcinoos

Matters of Guild and Forum
by Brianne A. Acinoos

It has been a couple of years that I have been a member of the Eternal Guardians of Valor, and as such, also a member of the Association of Rhydin Guilds (our forum for those who aren’t sure).  When one becomes a member of EGoV, they automatically also become a member of AoRG.  This partnership seems to have positive and negatives views when looked at through many people’s eyes.  But in the end, for all matters that really count to an individual, the forum really doesn’t matter all that much.

If one wished, one simply need not participate in events, apply for regulations, or attend forum meetings, and they might delete the forum newsletters delivered each week.  From what I have heard, not just from members of EGoV, this is the wish of some.

Others choose to be involved.  They make the conscious choice to go out and meet others through events and meetings organized by the guild.  But those who don’t make friends and families without it.  Some apply for regulations, to be a certified healer within the forum or a certified hunter or any of the other avenues a member might pursue. Or they might attend forum meetings, and they might take a position within the Chancellory.

Neither of these paths is wrong for an individual.  Both are the fantastic and adventurous paths for any person to choose in life.  Whether one chooses to be involved or not to be involved in activities run by the forum or not to be involved, that is their personal choice, and the High Council supports it.  While we do encourage involvement, it has been and never will be mandatory.  Yes, to be a leader means to be knowledgeable about the forum EGoV has chosen to be a part of, but that doesn’t mean we are jumping in and fighting every change or speaking our opinions loudly so that we are heard.  In the end, that is not our priority.

Our priority lies with guild.  Long after the forum is gone, not that it expected soon, the guild will stand.  Our existence and happiness is not based on whatever mandates the Chancellory is pulling out this week.  The guild, first and foremost, is our home and our responsibility.

While it can be frustrating at times, and even downright angering, it is important to remember that the forum does not need to have a central point in our lives.  In all things, the Eternal Guardians of Valor is what truly matters and what should always be counted on.
